As colleges struggle with enrollment, Connecticut schools say they are holding their own

Outside of Connecticut, small liberal arts colleges have been struggling in New England. Three schools in Vermont — the College of St. Joseph, Green Mountain College and Southern Vermont College — closed in 2019. In Massachusetts, other schools have closed or merged in recent years, including Mount Ida College, which closed in 2018. Hampshire College, in Amherst, Mass., admitted a freshman class of just 15 students this fall as it sought a partner for a merger amid financial struggles.
