A generation of ‘do-gooders’: Meet millennial volunteers and the causes they give their time to in Connecticut

People have reasons for volunteering that range from a desire to further a social cause, expand professional skills, connect to people with shared interests, or, like Murray, simply give back. Many volunteer opportunities originate at work, with companies supporting a wide range of causes. Like generations before them, millennials seem to find the greatest benefit in supporting causes that are personally meaningful. The Millennial Impact Report says 29% of millennial workers said they volunteered because “I was passionate or interested in the cause.”
